Montalcino always at the heights of oenology

Two titles that are important and greatly aspired to, two international
acknowledgments that reward the work of the producers and people of Montalcino and confirm the territory’s value.
The main characters in this story are Gabriele Gorelli, advertising graphic designer, born in 1984, who has passed the selections to become Master of Wine, and Sandro Chia, illustrious artist and producer of Brunello di Montalcino at the Castello Romitorio Winery, who has been assigned the 2015 Champion Red Wine Award.
After a very strict selection process, Gabriele has passed the first year exam to become Master of Wine, assigned by the London-based academy which trains the world’s most acclaimed wine experts. The path is still long and hard (there are three exams in total), but Gabriele has just what it takes to become the next Italian MW. There are currently only 322 Masters of Wine in the world, distributed all over the globe, from the USA to Africa, through Asia, Europe and Australia.
Sandro Chia and his Brunello di Montalcino 2010 “Filo di Seta”, on the other hand, have been assigned the 2015 Champion Red Wine Award for the world’s best red wine at the prestigious “International Wine Challenge”. This is the second time for Chia: in 2010 his Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2004 Castello Romitorio received the same award. Following numerous acknowledgments, the praise of national and international critics and the sales figures, this prize confirms once again the excellence of the 2010 vintage of this great Tuscan red.
“Montalcino, and its social and economic fabric are in excellent health and these two
acknowledgements are the proof – says the Chairman of the Consorzio del Brunello, Fabrizio Bindocci. We are proud of the work of our fellow townspeople and the Consortium wants to publicly acknowledge their merits. Virtuous examples like those set by Gabriele and Sandro Chia undoubtedly contribute to upholding the name of Brunello and its territory throughout the world”.
