Nine days of tastings in Montalcino and in four international venues, 135 wineries and more than 300 ready-to-taste labels. It is the 31st edition of Benvenuto Brunello, the longest preview in Italy reserved to the prince of Tuscan wines, scheduled from 11th to 21st November. Starting this year, the format, organised by the Consorzio del vino Brunello di Montalcino, will cross the borders of the Tuscan town to move simultaneously to London, New York City, Los Angeles and Toronto, where Brunello Day will be celebrated on 17th November.
Making their debut in cosmopolitan wine glasses dedicated to one of the most iconic wines globally are the 2018 Brunello 2018 and the 2017 Riserva, accompanied by the 2021 Rosso di Montalcino and the other two wines of the designation, namely Moscadello and Sant’Antimo.
As for the playbill, the event will be officially opened by the press. More than 70 journalists, selected from among Italian and foreign representatives from Canada, the United States, Germany, Norway, France, the Netherlands and Poland, and 12 Masters of Wine, the expert members of the most authoritative London organisation, capable of influencing the outlet channels of the entire supply chain, coming from China, India, the Arab Emirates and some European countries. The 31st edition of Benvenuto Brunello also marks the official start of the collaboration between the Consorzio del vino Brunello di Montalcino and the Vinitaly International Academy, with a special incoming project involving 15 operators including journalists, buyers and influencers in the sector.
The wine tastings will be complemented by the presentation of the 2022 vintage and the traditional unveiling of the tile at the Astrusi Theatre (Saturday, 12th November – 5:00 p.m.), as well as the awarding of the 31st Leccio D’Oro. Also – in collaboration with Aset – the Gambelli prize will be awarded to the best winemaker under 40. The following days will give room to trade sector representatives (13th November), sommeliers and patrons of starred restaurants (14th November), and local producers (15th November), while on Thursday, 17th November, Montalcino will stop for Brunello Day in the USA, the UK and Canada.
The Benvenuto Brunello programme will close with a three-day tasting event (19-20-21 November) for Brunello enthusiasts.
