The 2023 has been a great year for Montalcino denomination with some of the producers in the top list of the most important wine magazines. The winery Argiano has been awarded as “best wine in the world” in the top 100 list according to Wine Spectator with their Brunello di Montalcino 2018. In the same list among the best wines also the Rosso di Montalcino from San Polo winery has been featured. Regarding the new 2019 vintage not yet released on the market same of the best recognitions have already been published from the Italian and international press confirming the outstanding quality of the territory of Montalcino. The journalist and wine expert sommelier Luca Gardini released on Gardininotes the report of the new vintage and six wines have been awarded with the top score of “110 cum laude”: Argiano with the Brunello Vigna del Suolo 2019, Le Potazzine with the Brunello di Montalcino 2019, Il Marroneto with the Brunello di Montalcino 2019 and with the Brunello Madonna delle Grazie 2019 and Casanuova di Neri with the Brunello Tenuta Nuova 2019 and with the Brunello Giovanni Neri 2019. Also according to James Suckling the Brunello di Montalcino Giovanni Neri 2019 is noteworthy, placed at the 7th ranking position of the Top 100 World Wines 2023 with the top score of 100 points. Siro Pacenti with the Brunello di Montalcino Vigne Vecchie 2019, Giodo with the Brunello di Montalcino 2019 and Col d’Orcia with the Brunello Poggio al Vento Riserva 2016 are also mentioned in the same list. In the Top 100 Wines of Italy 2023 the Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Montosoli 2019 from Valdicava winery is ranked in the 2nd position with the top score of 100 points. The journalist and Italian wine expert Kerin O’Keefe has given the top score of 100 points to four Brunello di Montalcino: Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona with the Brunello Pianrosso 2019, Conti Costanti with the Brunello di Montalcino 2019, Le Chiuse with the Brunello di Montalcino 2019 and the winery L’Aietta with the Brunello Alberelli 2019. In the latest report signed by Eric Guido Italian editor for Vinous there is only one top 100 points of Canalicchio di Sopra winery with the Brunello Vigna 2019, the only wine in Montalcino that obtain this prestigious recognition.
