Poggio Antico lies on the highest ridge south of Montalcino. The estate covers about 200 hectares, with 37 under vine, located between 4800 and 620 meters above sea level — among the highest vineyards in the Brunello area. Altitude, constant ventilation, and strong diurnal temperature shifts create a unique microclimate that allows for slow, balanced ripening of the grapes, preserving freshness and aromatic complexity.
The soils, of calcareous origin, combine galestro, marl, sands, and marine-derived silts — poor and naturally well-drained, they contribute to wines with tension, finesse, and refined tannins. Viticulture is based on precision management: the vineyards have been mapped into 15 soil units, each cultivated, harvested, and vinified separately to enhance its individual identity.
The estate is certified organic and follows regenerative practices — green manure, permanent cover crops, and reduced treatments — to protect soil fertility, structure, and biodiversity. In the cellar, gentle extractions and large oak casks are preferred, keeping each parcel’s lots separate throughout aging. The wines are unfiltered: the goal is not to impose a style but to faithfully express the altitude, soils, and exposures that define Poggio Antico.
