THE "VINIBUONI D'ITALIA" GUIDE AWARDS 11 CROWNS TO BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO AND 1 TO ROSSO AND REWARDS 21 LABELS
The 2012 edition of ‘VinBuoni d’Italia’ the only guide dedicated to autochthonous wines,
will be presented in Montalcino on the 26th of November
Montalcino, 23 novembre 2011 – Once more Brunello di Montalcino achieves success in the Italian wine guides. the latest to reward the great red wine of Montalcino is the “ViniBuoni d’Italia 2012” Guide, a unique publication in the national and international panorama, dedicated exclusively to autochthonous wines and vineyards, in other words to wines produced 100% in this country for over 300 years.
This guide that will be presented on Saturday 26th November at 10.30 in the Teatro degli Astrusi in Montalcino, has awarded 12 crowns (11 to Brunello and 1 to Rosso) and rewarded 21 Montalcino labels divided into 3 categories Crowns, Golden Stars and Wines not to be missed. Tuscany was awarded as many as 36 crowns on a par with Piedmont.

The success of Brunello 2006 was also decreed by other guides published last October: The Espresso Guide, that awarded its prestigious “5 bottiglie” to 9 Brunello 2006 wines; the ‘Tre Bicchieri’ Guide of Gambero Rosso that rewarded 16 labels; the ‘Slow Wine’ Guide, that assigned 7 “snails” to as many labels of Brunello; the Veronelli Guide, that rewarded 49 Brunello di Montalcino wines with “super 3 stars”; and finally ‘Duemila vini’ Ars/Bibenda, that awarded its “5 grappoli” to 18 labels.
The Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino was founded in 1967 after the recognition of the D.O.C., as a free association of producers with the intention of safeguarding a wine whose prestige was asserting itself more and more. It has during the years embodied an instrument of scrupulous and responsible self-discipline, bringing together old and new, small and large estates, in such a way that the wise consolidated customs became a common strategy for qualitative success. The Consorzio safeguards and promotes all four Montalcino denomination wines: Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino, Moscadello di Montalcino and Sant’Antimo Doc; the remaining part is planted with Igt.
There are 250 producers (of which 200 are bottlers), all of whom are members of the Consorzio. In all there are 3500 hectares of vineyards in Montalcino divided as follows: 2100 hectares are planted with Brunello di Montalcino; 510 hectares are planted with Rosso di Montalcino; 50 hectares are planted with Moscadello di Montalcino; 600 hectares are planted with Sant’Antimo Doc; the remaining part is planted with Igt.
On average every year 6,500,000 bottles of Brunello di Montalcino are produced. 4,000,000 of Rosso di Montalcino, 80,000 of Moscadello di Montalcino and 500,000 of Sant’Antimo.
60% of the produce is exported and the total turnover in the wine sector of Montalcino is around 140 million euros.
