Montalcino, 19 March 2015 – The Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino will be at Vinitaly (PAVILION 9 STAND B6), represented by over 130 estates from the area, which will be proposing Brunello 2010 and Rosso 2013 for tasting.

“The Verona fair represents an essential moment for the producers of Montalcino to meet international buyers and take a look at the rest of the Italian market – says Consortium Chairman Fabrizio Bindocci. This year we are presenting a very “strong” vintage, which has been applauded by the critics, journalists and operators who have tasted it. So this year we have a little extra stimulation, because the quality levels reached by Italian producers are very high and every year brings a new challenge for us to take on”.

This year the Consortium stand has been completely restyled to create an open space which enhances the value not only of the brand and the wine, but also of the entire Montalcino area, with pictures that show the beauty of the landscapes and its historical and artistic treasures.

Just last week, the 2010 Brunello was at Prowein in Düsseldorf, where journalist Christian Eder, who writes for the prestigious German magazine, Vinum, led a tasting which was absolutely packed out. Enthusiasm also reigned at the Benvenuto Brunello, the preview held in Montalcino, and during the tasting tours of New York, San Francisco, Calgary and Vancouver: an outstanding wine, with great balance and great potential for excellent ageing, a “must-have”.

In 2014 the territory of Montalcino enjoyed excellent health, as proven by the data presented during Benvenuto Brunello: a turnover in the winemaking sector which is up 2% on 2013, reaching 168,250,000 euros. Production is up too (+3.60% on the previous year) with 13,193,000 bottles released onto the market in 2014; exports confirmed 67.5% of the entire production, with the US market in the lead, with over 30% of exports, followed by Europe with 20% (led by the UK, Germany and Switzerland), the Asian markets (China, Japan, Hong Kong, etc.) with 15%, Canada (12%) and Central and South America (8%). The 2014 figure for the wine tourism sector in Montalcino was also significant, exceeding 30 million euros and 1 million tourists, recording +17.5% on overnight stays in hotels, etc. and +16.5% more visitors than for the same time last year.
