THE SEAL OF FEDERICA PELLEGRINI’S PHOENIX ON THE TILE OF THE 5-STAR 2020 VINTAGE

(Montalcino - Siena, 6th March 2021). “At each harvest, the rebirth of a myth”. The tile dedicated to the 2020 vintage of Brunello di Montalcino, created this year by Federica Pellegrini, is the quintessence of restarting. Indeed, she chose to depict a Phoenix on the decorative tile, the same symbol of rebirth that the many-time Olympic champion got tattooed on her neck after a difficult period. The mythological firebird was laid today on the wall of the Montalcino Town hall on occasion of Benvenuto Brunello “OFF” to celebrate not only the 5 stars attributed to the most recent vintage of the iconic Tuscan red, but also the desire to rise again.

“The Phoenix is a sign of good fortune and rebirth for wine and for all of us,” stated Fabrizio Bindocci, Chairman of the Consorzio del vino Brunello di Montalcino. “The same good fortune that has brought us an exceptional harvest in such a terrible year at the one just ended.”

In the pool for 32 years, Federica Pellegrini is the youngest Italian athlete to have stepped on an Olympic podium and boasts the longest career among Italian female champions, with as many as 53 medals around her neck. The Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino has chosen a sports ambassador of excellence as the face for 2021 in an edition of Benvenuto Brunello “OFF” that marks the debut of the ‘medal-winning’ 2016 vintage, which has already conquered the palates of international wine critics.
