(Montalcino – SI, 20 November 2021). The Leccio d'Oro, the award of the Consorzio del vino Brunello di Montalcino, extends a long red carpet from Norway to Malta, crossing the whole of Italy. And today, on the final day of the first stage of the 30th Benvenuto Brunello (19-29 November), the 7 national and international winners were unveiled.

The winner of the Leccio d’Oro in the foreign restaurant category is Casa Matta in Oslo: despite having opened only last year, the restaurant already has about 40 different labels of Brunello on its list.
The winning Italian restaurant is La Trattoria Enrico Bartolini. Located in the Andana Resort in Castiglion della Pescaia (GR), this starred restaurant described by the Michelin guide as being “in Maremma sauce”, offers about 150 Brunello labels on its wine list, with vintages going as far back as the 90s and an entire room devoted exclusively to the king of Montalcino wines.
From Tuscany to Veneto, with the first Leccio d’Oro ever to be won in the hometown of Romeo and Juliet going to the historical Caffè Dante Bistrot, which wins the award in the ‘Osterie’ category. This venue, which has about 90 different Brunello labels on its wine list, is in Piazza dei Signori in Verona, where the statue of Dante watches over the cellar, and has been rewarded once again with Wine Spectator’s “Best of award of Excellence”.
For wine bars, the international Leccio d'Oro award goes to Vini e Capricci by Abraham's in the city of Xeuchia in Malta, a veritable cult venue and landmark on the island for fans of gourmet food, wine & spirits. The winner of the Italian wine bar category goes to Antico Vinaio in Cernusco sul Naviglio. The “house of wine” just outside Milan, is run by Cristiano Navalesi, who is originally from Tuscany but moved to the North of Italy to “follow his heart”.
As far as the special prizes of the Leccio d'Oro 2021 are concerned, the historic Salumeria Roscioli, internationally renowned for its excellent carbonara near Campo dei Fiori in Rome, wins in the “Rosso di Montalcino” category, while the “Brunello Lovers” award goes to Calandrino (Rubano, Padua), the eclectic and informal restaurant run by the multi-starred Massimiliano Alajmo, offering over 50 labels of Brunello on its wine list.
Set up in 1994, the Premio Leccio d’Oro is dedicated to Italian and foreign restaurants and wine bars with a wine list that is particularly representative of the wines of this Tuscan town, starting with Brunello.
