At the foot of Monte Amiata, Tenuta San Giorgio unfolds across the hills south of Montalcino, in the municipality of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. – a natural vantage point overlooking the Val d’Orcia, where, since 2016, the colours of the earth have taken shape in wine.
Of the estate’s 142 hectares, just 28 are under vine, all devoted to Sangiovese. Here, the grape reveals a wide range of expressions, shaped by a vivid mosaic of soils: ancient Pliocene sediments, untamed clay, light mineral-rich tuff, glowing red earth, biancane, and rugged calanchi. Surrounding it all, woodland: 110 hectares of thriving biodiversity that safeguard a landscape shaped by millennia of transformation.
Certified organic since 2019, the estate follows a low-intervention philosophy: slow fermentations in concrete tanks, ageing in large oak casks – minimal interference, maximum expression.
The range includes Ciampoleto Rosso di Montalcino, Ugolforte Brunello di Montalcino, and its more austere Riserva. Tenuta San Giorgio is also the official wine supplier of the Pontifical Swiss Guard, with a dedicated selection that began with the 2005 vintage of Ugolforte.
