WINE, CONSORZIO BRUNELLO: FROM 14 TO 18 NOVEMBER, THE 33RD EDITION OF BENVENUTO BRUNELLO BINDOCCI (President): INCISIVE AUTUMN PREVIEW FOR INTERNATIONAL MARKETS AMONG THE NOVELTIES: THE RETURN OF TASTING COUNTERS WITH PRODUCERS, IN A LOGIC OF SHARING
04/10/2024
Montalcino (Siena), 23 September 2024. Five days of tastings with 127 wineries and over 500 labels, ready for sampling. The 33rd edition of Benvenuto Brunello, the original of all Italian wine previews, dedicated to the prince of Tuscan reds, will be held from 14 to 18 November in the Cloister of Sant’Agostino in Montalcino: for 2024 in its usual autumn format, but with a few novelties. Starting this year, the flagship event of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino returns to one of its original features, with several days of walk-around tastings in the presence of the producers, open also to wine-lovers. These tastings will be joined by three in-depth masterclasses on different vintages and production styles. In the glasses, making their debut, will be Brunello di Montalcino 2020 and Riserva 2019 in addition to Rosso di Montalcino 2023 and the other two wines of the designation, Moscadello and Sant’Antimo.
“Benvenuto Brunello, held each November, serves as an incisive preview, reinforcing the position of our designation on the market, in particular on the international market, where we export about 70% of our production,” comments the President of the Consorzio, Fabrizio Bindocci. “Starting this year, while maintaining the formal approach of technical tasting sessions reserved for critics, we are also multiplying the preview features, in particular with the in-person presence of the companies of our territory, in a logic of sharing amongst producers, operators, the press and wine-lovers.”
Opening the event programme are the technical tastings with sommelier service on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 November, reserved exclusively for the national and international press. On Saturday 16, the Teatro degli Astrusi of the medieval Tuscan village hosts a focus on “What future for wine consortia?” (10.30 a.m.), with the participation of presidents Albiera Antinori (DOC Bolgheri and DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia), Francesco Cambria (Etna DOC), Sergio Germano (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alba, Langhe, Dogliani), Giovanni Manetti (Chianti Classico) and Christian Marchesini (Valpolicella). This will be followed by the evaluation of the 2020 vintage, on sale beginning January 2025, the awarding of the Leccio d’Oro prize and the traditional unveiling of the Benvenuto Brunello tile. At the same time, the tasting counters with the producers will also open to the public, in the Cloister of Sant’Agostino. The walk-around tastings with wineries will then continue on Sunday 17 and Monday 18 November (10 a.m.- 6 p.m.).
On the masterclass front, we start on Saturday 16 November (11 a.m.) with an appointment led by DoctorWine Daniele Cernilli, director and editor of Guida Essenziale ai Vini d’Italia, and continue on Sunday 17 at 11 a.m. with an in-depth analysis led by Master of Wine Andrea Lonardi (both classes by paid reservation). Monday 18 November (at 11 a.m.) is the turn of the tasting organised by wine expert Francesco Saverio Russo - reserved for starred restaurants and haute hôtellerie.
