BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO:
WITH TWO EXCEPTIONAL VINTAGES
ONCE MORE AT THE TOP OF INTERNATIONAL ENOLOGY
This has been confirmed by the Benvenuto Brunello currently taking place in Montalcino.
The year 2006 carries off enthusiastic consensus and could prove one of the best vintages ever.
The same applies to 2010 thanks to what experts Maracchi, Scienza and Cotarella see as the
Montalcino factor: an area of enological excellency, capable of repeatedly producing
top results with one single grape variety.
Two five star vintages that reaffirm Brunello di Montalcino’s international leadership among red wines. This is the outcome of the Benvenuto Brunello currently taking place in Montalcino, where the major world experts of the sector have gathered to taste the 2006 and the 2009 Rosso di Montalcino DOC.
The first impressions of international critics who had forecast for 2006 an exceptional vintage have been confirmed, “one of the best ever”, outstanding reports are coming in also of the 2010 vintage: the committee of experts that this week judged the samples, awarded 5 stars to Brunello 2010.
For Vittorio Fiore, enologist and consultant working in Montalcino since the seventies, “wines obtained in this harvest show extraordinary characteristics for Sangiovese, confirming last October’s forecasts made by President of the Consorzio Ezio Rivella who predicted “one of the greatest vintages ever” , an opinion shared by Franco Biondi Santi, historic producer of Brunello at his estate il Greppo “the 2010 harvest was outstanding”.
This is due to what experts Giampiero Maracchi, Attilio Scienza and Riccardo Cotarella* see as the “Montalcino factor”: an area of enological excellence, one of the few places in the world in which it is possible to repeatedly produce top quality wines using one single grape variety. In the last 10 years Brunello has had four excellent years and four 4 star years and only two disappointing harvests.
The President of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino Ezio Rivella affirms that “the qualitative growth of producers is evident both with regard to the work in the vineyard as to that in the winery. The judgment of the year 2006 and above all of 2010 are rewards for all the efforts of producers who are working to strengthen and improve the quality of the wine at an international level. A very important signal to the market that according to our predictions in 2011 should confirm a further growth”.
