BRUNELLO: STARTING TODAY A “QUALITY” HARVEST

For President Bindocci “the situation is overall very good, with grapes that can potentially give us a high quality wine. The production could be lower

than last year currently estimated by about 10%”

Montalcino, 17th September 2012 - The harvest begins today in the land of Brunello.

According to the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino, that has since a few days been carrying out the required analyses in vineyards to check the conditions of the grapes and to establish the degree of maturity, “the data gathered show a very good overall picture, in keeping with what happened in previous years, with grapes that can give high quality products – declared the President of the Consorzio Fabrizio Bindocci. Production could be lower than last year, currently estimated by about 10%. The quantity and quality will be valued, however at the end of the harvest when definite data will be at hand”.

After a somewhat hard winter with abundant snowfalls – positive events that favour the balance both of the water accumulations and of a series of parameters useful for vines – the spring was relatively warm, in keeping with normal weather conditions.

Despite a very hot summer, that in some cases pushed the vineyards to the limit of equilibrium for the correct development of the vegetative phase, the rains at the end of summer, during the beginning of September restored the balance by creating better conditions for the more important phase of ripening of the sangiovese grapes.

According to the Ismea estimates, thanks to the reduced presence of pathogens, the quality of the grapes promises to be from good to excellent, with an above average sugar content.
