Over 240 chefs and sommeliers, 60 of which Michelin starred, participated in the wine tasting.

 

SUCCESS FOR “BENVENUTO BRUNELLO WORLD EXPERIENCE” IN THE USA

50 wineries flew to New York City and Los Angeles for the American preview of the new vintages Brunello 2009 and Rosso 2012 and they have been greatly welcomed.

 

Montalcino Feb. 07 – 2014 – The USA confirmed itself as a main market for Brunello. For that reason,  a few days ago, the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino together with 50 wineries of its region flew to New York City and Los Angeles to showcase the new vintages Brunello 2009, Reserve 2008 and Rosso 2012 to the American journalists, sommeliers and famous restaurant owners of the two metropolis. These vintages will soon be released for consumption and presented in Italy at the event Benvenuto Brunello (Feb. 21 – 24).

 

Great success in the two metropolis. Over 240 chefs and sommeliers participated in the wine tastings,  60 of which representing Michelin starred restaurants and wine shops such as  Chef's Table at Brooklyn Fare, Daniel, Eleven Madison Park, Jean Georges, Atera, Jungsik, 15 East, Ai Fiori, Aldea, A Voce Columbus, Casa Mono, Lincoln, Telepan and many others.

 

 

“In the USA there is always great enthusiasm for our wines – said Francesco Ripaccioli - Vice president of the Consorzio - who participated in the events. This is a very important moment for the Consorzio and its territory to understand the demands of this overseas market , which represents 25% of our export. During these events we have the opportunity to tell the story of every single bottle of Brunello and of the producers’ passion in making it. These are essential elements for the US market, increasingly more oriented towards high quality standards”.

 

For the two exclusive lunches prepared for over a thousand guests, Chefs from the cities' premiere  restaurants have been involved, such as Babbo and Del Posto in New York -  led by Mario Batali, Joe and Lidia Bastianich, or the Culina restaurant  in Los Angeles.

Jeff Porter, Wine Director of the restaurants Babbo and Del Posto, tweeted “Brunello 2009 is extravagance… I’ll take the passion of Sangiovese with me”

Joel Mack of the Vintrospective blog describes vintage 2009 as “open, generous and ready to drink”.

 

Sommelier Tim Rawding of the Altamarea Group, which includes restaurants such as Marea, Ai Fiori, Costata, Ristorante Morini, Osteria Morini, Due Mari, Nicoletta, The Chop Shop, Al Molo says: “it’s very important to pair these wines with food, especially if you taste different vintages in a short amount of time”.

 

180 journalists took part in the events, representing the most important overseas newspapers and TV channels such as The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times,  The Times Weekly, Bloomberg News, CBS Television, ABC TV, CRN Radio and the most prestigious international wine magazines  Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast .
