Montalcino, May 11, 2022 - This coming Saturday, June 11th, the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino brings to life the first edition of Red Montalcino, an inaugural event dedicated to Rosso di Montalcino DOC. The Consorzio welcomes for the occasion a collaboration with Food for Soul, in a special, never-before charity dinner on Saturday evening. Food for Soul is the non-profit organization founded by Chef Massimo Bottura and Lara Gilmore whose vision for a world not wasted and where good food is accessible has grown into a global Refettorio movement of cultural projects.

Red Montalcino aims to unveil the identity of Rosso di Montalcino, launching a new path for this Sangiovese and exploring its great potential, while at the same time reinventing the territory of Montalcino in a contemporary light and granting access to a younger audience. A new interpretation for this beloved Tuscan borgo - renowned throughout the world for its great wines - but also for its untapped potential in Nature, Sustainability, Sports, History and Art.

Rosso di Montalcino is a joyful expression of a vision tied to contemporaneity, a precious value dear to younger generations, with a strong identity upheld by an iconic territory of Italian wine. Its nuances and facets best interpret the Sangiovese grape, with an exceptional versatility that makes it coveted and sought after on tables throughout the world.

Saturday kicks off with a presentation at the Teatro degli Astrusi in Montalcino, in which wine blogger Francesco Saverio Russo will award the Ambassadors of Rosso di Montalcino: Matteo Bernardi, Sommelier of three-star Michelin restaurant in Veneto, Le Calandre; Andrea Menichetti, Sommelier of Caino, two Michelin star restaurant in Maremma; and Pascal Tinari, Sommelier of Villa Maiella, one Michelin star restaurant in the province of Chieti.

Following, there will be a Round Table discussion with interventions by young producers of the territory, who will shed light on the potential of this product and their relationship and experience in working with the iconic, territorial Brand of Montalcino. Lara Gilmore will intervene to explain the roots and the making of the collaboration between the Consorzio del Brunello di Montalcino and Food for Soul.

In addition, two private masterclasses will be held, moderated by Luca Gardini (wine critic recenltly named “Best Italian Wine Critic in the World”) and wine blogger Francesco Saverio Russo.

On Saturday afternoon, the local wineries will come together to offer a walk-around tasting, open to the public, in the Chiostro in the Sant’Agostino museum complex. This provides the perfect occasion to get to know Rosso di Montalcino up close, while paying a visit to the “not to be missed” Temple of Brunello.

The evening will culminate in an original, by-invitation-only dinner, realized in collaboration with Food for Soul, within the walls of the scenic Fortezza of Montalcino and “distilled” in a menu that takes inspiration from the cultural diversity of the various Rifettorios of Food for Soul all over the world. The decision to partner with Food for Soul highlights an overarching goal to raise awareness about major contemporary issues such as inclusivity, sustainability, waste, respect for the environment and support of local communities.

Red Montalcino is the Consorzio opening its arms to a global community of responsible actors, a new conversation dedicated to sharing sustainable, respectful values that become defining to a new story for Rosso di Montalcino.
