Brunello and Barolo together for the first time in Copenhagen



In the exclusive surroundings of the Børsen Palace of Copenhagen, Consorzio del vino Brunello di Montalcino, Consorzio i Vini del Piemonte and Strada del Barolo will join forces to create a unique event.

Copenhagen, November 21st 2014 – An extraordinary occasion: the two wines that symbolise the best in Italian production, Brunello and Barolo, will be presented together for the very first time in an institutional event of promotion. It happens today in Copenhagen, where more than 40 top quality wine cellars will offer Danish wine lovers an experience of the highest quality.

More than twenty Brunello producers and as many of Barolo, thanks to the partnership between Consorzio I Vini del Piemonte and Strada del Barolo with Consorzio del vino Brunello di Montalcino, are the focus of this tasting dedicated to final consumers and to numerous representatives of the sector, such as journalists, restaurateurs, sommeliers and importers.

Official event partners are: Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Roero, Confederazione Italiana Agricoltori - sede di Alba and the local tourist board “Ente Turismo Alba Bra Langhe Roero”.

The Italian Embassy in Copenhagen, which has supported the initiative since the very beginning, has provided its sponsorship. Ambassador Stefano Queirolo Palmas has declared: «I consider Denmark a potentially perfect market for the two champions of Italian wine, which stand as symbols of two regions which, also in other areas, hold great potential for success on the international markets. The Danish interest in Italian wine has increased to the point that, in recent years, our exports have surpassed that of our main competitors, both in terms of volume and value. I would therefore like to stress my profound appreciation of this alliance between the producers of the two great reds, which for the first time are presented together on the Danish stage of wine-making, in a joint effort to the benefit of Italian promotion as a whole. I hope that their example will spread within the sector, as well as in other areas».

Denmark is, in fact, one of the countries where Italian wines are very well known and appreciated and the constant growth over the last few years has made Italy the main wine exporter in this country.

Moreover, the Danish public can rely on a high purchase capability, are quite knowledgeable of wines and, in particular, love top quality food and wine products. This is proven by the figures of the event taking place today where 1,200 people are expected.

«The event originates from three keywords – says Nicola Argamante, vice president of the Consortium I Vini del Piemonte. The first is Export, not simply because the greater part of our product is sold abroad, but also because top quality wines are one of the feathers in the cap of the “Made in Italy” brand, and so their success in foreign markets can help bolster the economy of our country. The second word is Intelligence: even if without any public funding for promotion in EU countries, we believe that it would be counter-productive for us to leave aside the Scandinavian markets. Too often, in fact, potentially (questionable connotates with doubt) useful events are organized on the other side of the world, forgetting strategic countries, especially from a tourism point of view, like Denmark or Sweden. The third key element are the Coalitions: even if we can rely on a leading product like Barolo, we firmly believe that when we go abroad it is useful and more and more necessary to join forces with groups that share our same values and the culture of excellence, to wind up being more competitive and better represent the “Italian lifestyle”. If the whole world wants to drink “Italian”, what better answer is there than to offer the two best Italian wine products at the same event?
