(Montalcino - Siena, 4th August 2022). The miracle rain that fell in recent days on the vineyards of Montalcino contributed not only to a significant improvement in the conditions of the plants but also to a wider range between day and night temperatures, with an average maximum of 33°C and minimum of 18°C.

This was reported by the Technical Commission of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino a few weeks before the harvest. As noted by the technicians, “Data from the weather stations show a uniform accumulation of precipitations in the countryside of Montalcino with 75-80 millimetres of rain. The result was immediate, with the improvement of the conditions of the plants - which were beginning to show stress symptoms, whereas now they have regained vigour - and with the green of the leaves that immediately became livelier.
Good news also in terms of phytosanitary criteria, with the absence of fungal diseases and the vineyards in excellent health, while the increase in the temperature range will contribute to the evolution of the aromas of Brunello, Rosso di Montalcino and the other wines of the 2022 vintage. Finally,”
concludes the Commission, “since veraison is yet incomplete, the bunches will still be able to increase in volume”.

According to the Consortium, it is still too early to estimate the start of harvesting, especially in light of the expected changes in weather conditions and with an August that will prove decisive for the quantity and quality of the Tuscan designation.
