WINE, BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO: BUSINESS AND WINE TASTINGS WITH 134 WINERIES AT VINITALY
(Montalcino - SI, March 29th, 2023). With 134 wineries and 63 attendees in the over 800m2 Consortium Area (Hall 9, from Booth B4 to Booth B8), Brunello di Montalcino is getting ready for the 55° edition of Vinitaly (April 2nd – 5th, Veronafiere). Hundreds of labels at the wine desk for the promotion of one of the main Italian fine wine denominations, Brunello di Montalcino, which for the second consecutive year is confirmed to be the most famous wine in Italy according to Wine intelligence.
Among the scheduled events there will be also Vinitaly OperaWine, the traditional wine tasting preview of the Salone internazionale del vino e dei distillati on Saturday April 1st at the Ex Gallerie Mercatali, with 11 Brunello di Montalcino part of the 130 labels selected as ambassadors of the Italian wine by Wine Spectator, one of the most influential wine magazines all over the world. Then on Sunday April 2nd (11am– Consortium Area) there will be the Brunello ten years challenge – A projection of ten years. A lookback and beyond, an invitation-only masterclass conducted by the Master of Wine Gabriele Gorelli: a look back into the past and to the future of the top of red Tuscan wines through a comparison between the 2008 and 2018 vintages. The Consortium of Brunello di Montalcino will be also partner of Vinitaly and the Night, the new event by Veronafiere dedicated to exhibitors and operators, that will take place on Tuesday April 4th at 8pm at the Palazzo della Gran Guardia in piazza Bra.
Furthermore during Vinitaly in the Consortium area there will be the opportunity to taste the Rosso di Montalcino and the other products of the denomination, Moscadello e Sant’Antimo, in addition to Brunello di Montalcino.
Brunello di Montalcino partecipates at Vinitaly following an increase in sales of 18% in 2022 and a +7% variation of sales volume compared to the same period of 2021. According to the Osservatorio Prezzi of the Consortium, the significant increase in the average price came together with a good performance in most of the export markets, especially the United States, which has the greatest market share with a growth of 29% in 2022. In the Top 5 export countries there are also Canada, Germany and Switzerland, meanwhile the demand is decreasing in the United Kingdom. The demand is performing well in Italy, which is the first market for the top of red Tuscan wines, with a +27% increase in value. Good results in the wine-tourism business: in 2022 Montalcino recorded an increase in visitors compared to the three years before pandemic (2017-2019).
