Biondi-Santi is located northeast of Montalcino and boasts 33 hectares of vineyards divided among five different plots, all situated in the northeastern area of the appellation. One of these, at the Greppo Estate, is nearly one hundred years old. The Biondi Santi family is at the origin of Brunello di Montalcino: it was Clemente Santi who, in 1869, first received recognition for a wine called Brunello, produced in 1865. Some bottles of the first wine officially labeled Brunello di Montalcino, from the 1888 vintage, are still preserved today in the Biondi-Santi cellar.
Since then, the estate has ensured the excellence of its wines, producing Brunello Annata and Riserva of rare elegance and longevity—wines capable of challenging even a century. From vineyards planted at higher altitudes on poor, galestro-rich soils, Biondi-Santi has developed a deep understanding of grape classification, adopting an approach no longer based on vine age, but rather on soil characteristics, exposure, grape quality, and the specific traits of each vintage.
