A GREAT SUCCESS FOR THE 20TH EDITION OF BENVENUTO BRUNELLO, AN EVENT FULL OF SURPRISES

02/03/2012

Montalcino, 02 March 2012 - From the 24th to the 27th of February, Montalcino was literarily invaded by journalists, critics and operators from all over the world who had come to taste the vintages presented in this preview. A few numbers: 250 journalists registered, of whom around one-hundred foreigners, 30 foreign countries represented and 4,500 operators, that crowded into the Museum Cloisters on Sunday and Monday.

Very successful too this year’s great novelties: the “digitalization” of the event through blogs and the main social media (Facebook, Twitter, flicker etc): Facebook’s Consorzio Page alone was visited in one week 13 thousand times, a 221% increase compared to the same amount of time in the month of January. The blog received 2 thousand visits and nearly 5 thousand viewings of the page. The blog contacts came not only from Italy but also from 50 foreign countries such as the U.S., the UK, Germany, France and Canada.

This years’s Benvenuto Brunello edition paid particular attention to solidarity, with a charitable event to which so many people decided to contribute: 1,200 T-shirts and sweat-shirts with the design of the 2011 harvest commemorative plaque created this year by the “Salvatore Ferragamo” griffe, were sold during the event to raise funds for the purchase of a new ambulance for he Confraternita della Misericordia di Montalcino. To date 20,300 Euros have been raised. Giovanna Gentile Ferragamo attended the ceremony of the presentation of the plaque at the benefit event.

“We wanted to give a new expression to the 20th edition of Benvenuto Brunello – commented President of the Consorzio Ezio Rivella first of all by making the most of the beauty of the Cloisters of the Montalcino Museum, that hosted not just the tastings but also the new space entirely dedicated to the meetings between producers and journalists. As well as the experiment of a new “social” version of the event, surely the first ever in Italy for an enological gathering, that we believe has allowed us to draw closer o all the aficionados who could not come to Montalcino but recognize the prestige and importance of our wine and of our event. And lastly the occasion for solidarity, in which we believed and that would not have been possible without the fundamental contribution and passion of Giovanna Gentile Ferragamo and her collaborators.
